Seoul: South Korean shipbuilding giant DSME is on the verge of resurrecting the mothballed TrentonWorks plant in Nova Scotia, according to Candaian press.
An executive from Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering said in an interview with The Canadian Press that the company plans to build components for wind turbines at the seven-hectare factory in Trenton.
Three sources with knowledge of the announcement say it could ultimately mean hundreds of jobs at the former railcar plant, which was closed by Oregon-based Greenbrier Inc. in April 2007.
DSME, like other large Korean shipbuilders, has looked to diversify into renewables during the shipping downturn as part of Korean president Lee Myung-bak’s so called ‘Green New Deal’.
