President Donald Trump has urged British Prime Minister Boris
Johnson and Brexit party leader Nigel Farage to join forces in the
December 12 general election to achieve a complete departure of the UK from the
European Union.
President Trump, while appearing on Mr Farage's London
LBC radio talk show, also agreed that the trade deal the prime minister struck
with EU negotiators was a bad one.
To which Mr Farage said that he would join Prime Minister
in a joint election strategy if then prime minister would only drop the deal,
he failed to get through parliament, and instead pledge to a no-deal Brexit.
Said Mr Farage: "If he drops this dreadful deal, if
he fights the general election on the basis of no-deal, that we want to have
trade with Europe but no political inference. If he was like that, I would be
right behind him."
President Trump said the terms of new EU deal, trade with
the US would be curtailed.
"Under this deal, we can't do it," said
President Trump. "We can't make a trade deal with the UK. I think we can
do many times the numbers we do now. Much bigger numbers than you are doing
under the European Union. Boris has to be very careful with that, because under
that, we are precluded - and that's the problem with this deal."
The US President said he was disappointed that Britain
had not quit the EU on October 31 as promised by Prime Minister Johnson.
"I think we are all disappointed," said
President Trump. "I was in favour of the UK leaving the EU from the beginning.
We can do much more in trade. We are so much bigger than we were when I took
office. We have grown a tremendous amount and China has gone in the opposite
direction. We've gained trillions of dollars in worth and they and they have
lost trillion dollars, so we are far and away the largest economy in the world.
"Your trade with us could be four to five times
higher than it is right now. You would be much stronger economically that you
are right now without the European Union. You are being held back by the
European Union. If they want a union, that's fine, but I know it hurts your
country. The are difficult people to deal with," he said.
