THE
Alliance's all-water EC2 container shipping service will from May call at the
port of Wilmington, North Carolina, sailing on a weekly frequency from China
and Korea through the Panama Canal to the US east coast operated by vessels of
8,500 TEU.
Port
authorities expect the EC2 will draw in more agricultural exports through the
port's cold storage (PWCS) facility, especially shipments of pork and poultry,
reported American Shipper.
The
port authority is investing US$120 million in its infrastructure over the next
few years to purchase new cranes, expand the turning basin and container yard,
and make various berth improvements.
In
addition to the EC2, the port's efforts have also resulted in the 2M Alliance
adding a call to the port with the TA2/NEUATL2 loop.
