THE FEDERAL Maritime Commission, US regulatory body of ocean shipping, has warned against an email scam using the FMC name, logo and web format that announced the recipient's lottery win on receipt of US$1,000-$10,000 in "taxes and insurance".
The emails do not use names of employees at the Washington, DC, based agency and are signed with the alias of Wayne Berkovitz.
To view sample emails visit www.fmc.gov and the commission advises that should you receive such an email do not respond or pass personal details but contact the FMC's inspector general at oig@fmc.gov with further information.
