CHINA SHIPPING (CSCL) has announced it will double the number of quay cranes to 16, including four super postpanamax gantries at its Los Angeles West Basic Container Terminal as well as expanding over 18 more acres on the site.
At full build out, the terminal will have an annual capacity of 1.5 million TEU. A road bridge has already been completed to the site linking China Shipping's West Basin terminal to the nearby Yang Ming-CSCL joint venture terminal, reports American Shipper.
The West Basin terminal also handles China Shipping, Yang Ming, "K" Line, Cosco, Hanjin, Sinotrans and Zim..
The terminal was the first to adopt "cold-ironing" whereby docked vessels use shore power rather than generating electricity from their onboard auxiliary engines.
