Jakarta: Jakarta
International Container Terminal (JICT), the biggest terminal operator at
Jakarta's Tanjong Priok port, yesterday unveiled a new auto-gate system (JAGS)
which it hopes will significantly cut transaction times at the gate and waiting
times in the parking area.
The system replaces check
booths at the entry and exit gates, which previously required loading cards,
with an automatic checkpoint machine using radio-frequency identification cards
and tickets. JICT has so far signed up 12,000 trucks for access to the
terminal.
JICT plans to raise annual
handling capacity from 2.5m teu to 2.8m teu.
