IT has
come to light that e-retailing giant Amazon.com
plans to use airships to store products and serve as a base for deliveries,
reports the Huffington Post.
Drones are to be launched from "airborne
fulfilment centres" (AFC) that would hover at 13,700 metres and be restocked and
resupplied by "shuttles or smaller airships", said the report.
The plan
was revealed by analyst Zoe Leavitt
at technology data and research firm CB Insights, who spotted the patent
filed two years ago by Amazon seeking permission to use such airships, said the
report.
Amazon was
not available for comment. Yet, the company is preparing to start using drones
for deliveries in 2017.
