THE 12th Arctic Shipping Summit will
held in Montreal February 21-22, focusing on increases in shipping and
its required infrastructure.
Also discussed will be northern
development, investing in sustainable infrastructure and communities, say the
conference organisers from London-based Active Communications International (ACI).
A keynote speaker will be Lonnie
Kishiyama, director, of the Office of International Activities, Maritime
Administration of US Department of Transportation.
Mr Kishiyama will report on
identified infrastructure needs and gaps as well as discuss 'early movers', the
US, Canada, Greenland and Norway in natural resource development, namely in oil
and gas, mining, and coal.
Also discussed will be balancing
investment with communities with examples being port development in Alaska's
Nome, Kotzebue and North Slope.
