GLOBAL breakbulk and heavy lift operator, AAL, has set up
a new operation in Japan to provide on-ground operational support to the
domestic market.
Based in Tokyo, the new company will focus on providing
services to the engineering, procurement and construction sectors, where Japan
has a strong reputation for the export of high-end quality products.
It will provide transportation and logistics services for
global heavy lift and project cargo. These include transport by sea, land and
air, related agency services, financing and temporary staffing and logistics
consultancy.
"Japan saw a steady resurgence in its export market
towards the end of 2014 supported by demand from the US and China - an
encouraging sign, considering the volatile global market," said managing
director Wolfgang Harms.
"Our local shipping customers aim to maximise their
operational efficiencies, as well as health and safety and sustainability
standards," he said.
Mr Harms will also continue in his roles as chief
representative for greater China and group deputy managing director. He will be
supported by Yuko Kimura as managing director, Takashi Shimizu as general
manager and Yushi Sato, who are all directors within the new organisation.
"We will continue to invest in the expansion of our
operations and the development of our fleet and trading routes to all
continents, to create a truly global reach for our customers. Launching AAL
Japan is a good example of this," said director Kyriacos Panayides.
