THE Canadian Pacific Railway (CP) has received 72-hour strike notice from the Teamsters and
the
International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) of their plan to
strike
on Saturday April 21.
CP has been Teamsters Canada Rail
Conference-Train & Engine (TCRC) working closely with the and the
IBEW to reach a settlement, said CP.
"Serving a strike notice is
part of the bargaining process that unions must follow if they want to be able
to strike," said CP president and CEO Keith Creel.
"We remain committed to
achieving a win-win solution and urge the two unions to work closely with
us and the federal mediators to achieve a positive outcome as soon as possible
in the hours leading up to the deadline," he said.
"At the end of the day, this is
all about our 12,000-strong CP family, and making decisions that benefit all
of our employees," Mr Creel said. "Further, those decisions must be
rooted in providing service to our customers and delivering for our
shareholders."
CP is a transcontinental railway in
Canada and the United States with direct links to major ports on the west and
east coasts, providing North American customers a rail service with access to
key markets in every corner of the globe.
