THE Trump Administration has
recommended that state-owned telecommunications company, China Mobile, be
restricted from the US market because its links to Beijing pose a national
security threat, reports London's Financial Times.
A statement from the telecoms branch
of the US Department of Commerce read that "after significant
engagement with China Mobile, concerns about increased risks to US law
enforcement and national security interests were unable to be resolved."
"This application raises
substantial and unacceptable national security and law enforcement risks in the
current national security environment," the department said, referring to
a 2011 request made by China Mobile to do business in the US.
This is just the latest example of
US political opposition to Chinese telecommunications firms, with companies
such as Huawei and ZTE facing intense pushback from
policymakers in recent months due to their alleged ties with the Chinese
government, reported China Economic Review.
