FRENCH shipping giant CMA CGM has announced that it is introducing an emergency
port congestion surcharge (PCS) on all export cargo from Lisbon,
Portugal to West Africa, with effect from September 21 (bill of lading
date).
The company said the move comes in
response to port congestion at Lisbon, which is "currently increasing our
operational costs and generating service disruption on EURAF 5, our product
from Portugal to West Africa strategic markets".
The surcharge is EUR140
(US$162) per TEU, which is to be paid in addition to the ocean freight
rate. The surcharge will be applied to all dry, reefer, out of gauge (OOG) and
breakbulk cargo, reported the American Journal of Transportation.
