FIRE broke out in the engine room of the 5,600-TEU Cap Jackson while anchoring at Balboa, Panama, according to Kiev's Maritime Bulletin, which specialises in marine casualties.
The
10-year-old Singapore-flagged ship
arrived at Balboa on July 29 after leaving Manzanillo, Mexico. The fire injured
one crewman and destroyed a generator.
Hapag-Lloyd already informed its
clients about the fire and that the ship will be undergoing repairs.
Cap Jackson's port of call was
Puerto Colon, where the ship was to transit the canal. However, as of August 2,
the ship has remained at anchor.
Cap Jackson serves on the
Mediterranean Pacific Service (MPS) service for Hapag-Lloyd and the MCPS
service for Hamburg Sud. The route includes Livorno Italy through the Panama
Canal and west coast North America.
