THE 1,581-TEU Indian-flagged SSL Ganga
lost a seaman overboard, three other crew were injured when a wave struck on May 15 in Arabian Sea off Mangalore.
The ship left
Mangalore that day bound for Hazira, and encountered rough weather, brought on
by cyclone Tauktau, reported Kiev's
Maritime Bulletin, which specialises in marine casualties.
Four seamen were on
deck duties when a rogue wave struck, sending one man overboard, injuring three
others. The ship returned to Mangalore in the morning May 16 and the injured
men were taken to hospital.
The ship searched
lost man for several hours, before turning back. The ship is managed by Shreyas
Shipping & Logistics (SSL).
SSL has a fleet of 13 vessels with a capacity of over 23,000
TEU, also offers services to the Middle East and Bangladesh. The
company operates all its services on a fixed day weekly schedule and is listed
on Bombay Stock Exchange and National
Stock Exchange of India Ltd.
