MARSEILLES-based French shipping giant CMA CGM has introduced a direct call to Vietnam on its weekly FAL 3 service linking Port of Hamburg to the Far East with chartered slots from its subsidiary ANL and China Shipping.
The CMA GGM OTELLO inaugural calling at the port of Cai Mep, south of Vietnam followed a 22 day transit time from Hamburg.
The service operates in 70 days deployed by 10 vessels of 8,500-9,500 TEU with a port rotation as follows: Qingdao, Ningbo, Chiwan, Nansha, Yantian, Cai Mep, Port Kelang, Malta, Le Havre, Dunkirk, Zeebrugge, Hamburg, Rotterdam, Zeebrugge, Southampton, Beirut, Jeddah, Port Kelang and Qingdao.
The addition of Vietnam to a service running from Hamburg for over a decade is prompted by the construction of new port cargo handling facility near Ho Chi Minh City and Haiphong.
The French carrier becomes the third to offer direct call from northern Europe since Israel's flag carrier ZIM launched the Asia-Med-Europe (AME) service in September followed by CKYH alliance Asia-North Europe Loop (NE-5).
