ENCOURAGED that parties to the longshore labour dispute
have sought federal mediation, the Burlington Northern Sante Fe (BNSF) Railway
has lifted its ban on boxes bound for US west coast ports.
With labour go-slows and congestion looming large, BNSF
Railway had refused international intermodal shipments headed to US west coast
ports on January 2.
Union Pacific Railroad, major said it wasn't experiencing
"any significant backlog of port freight traffic" and hadn't imposed
embargoes on intermodal cargo. But then BNSF announced in a notice to trade
"BNSF Railway is encouraged that parties involved have agreed to
mediation, and urge prompt restoration of full production levels necessary to
avoid further disruptions.?
