VICTORIA International Container Terminal's (VICT) - a
member of Manila's ICTSI group - the new container port in Melbourne has signed
up for Kalmar's integrated automation system to handle box operations for EUR15
million (US$17.4 million)
Under the contractual terms, the equipment provider that
is a part of the Finland's Cargotec group will be responsible for the delivery
of the control systems of automatic stacking cranes (ASC) and
"AutoShuttles," and terminal logistic system (TLS).
In addition, the integration of the system components and
terminal operating system (TOS), a company statement said.
The contract follows an order for 12 ASC and 11
AutoShuttles received in September 2014. The TOS will be provided by Navis,
part of Cargotec.
At VICT's new terminal at Webb Dock, the system will
integrate the ASCs and AutoShuttles, access control, ship-to-shore crane
interface and safety and fault monitoring systems. The project includes virtual
simulation as well as testing of the components with live equipment in Tampere,
Finland.
