Japan’s
ClassNK has once again become the world’s
largest classification society based on the registered tonnage,
according to the company’s official annual registration figures, and data
gathered by Clarkson’s.
The latest figures show that over 366 million deadweight
tons are now registered with ClassNK, some 21% of the world’s entire classed
fleet, according to Clarkson’s.The number of newbuildings joining ClassNK in
2014 totalled over 16 million gross tons, or more than 25% of all newly built
tonnage last year.
ClassNK has also teamed up with various industry partners
throughout Asia, Europe, and the Americas on a variety of joint R&D
projects focusing on safety of ships at sea and protection of the marine
environment.”
