MARSEILLES
shipping giant CMA CGM has announced that the CMA
CGM Volga, the eighth of twenty-eight 10,000-TEU range ships, has
started her maiden voyage in the Asia-Europe service from Dalian.
The CMA CGM Volga will rotate through Dalian, Tianjin,
Kwangyang, Busan, Shanghai, Ningbo, Shenzhen-Chiwan, Shenzhen-Yantian, Tanjung
Pelepas, Izmit, Istanbul Ambarli, Constanza, Odessa, Ilyichevsk, Port Said,
Port Kelang, Singapore and back to Dalian.
Sister ships CMA CGM Danube, CMA CGM Elbe, CMA CGM
Litani, CMA CGM Tigris, CMA CGM Loire, CMA CGM Ural and CMA
CGM Rhone are named after rivers. The vessels were first delivered last
June with the last one expected in the third quarter of 2016.
Flying the Maltese flag, the Volga was built in the
Chinese NTS shipyards - New Times Shipbuilding, Jiangsu province, near
Shanghai.
At 300 metres long and 48 metres wide, she was designed
to offer a maximum loading capacity while meeting the constraints of the
Bosphorus. With a 1,458-FEU reefer plugs, she exemplifies the company's aim to
be a leader in the field.
Joining the Bosphorus Express (BEX) service, the CMA CGM
Volga will offer direct links between Asia, Turkey and the Black Sea.
The ship is equipped with the latest environmental
technologies that reduce C02 emissions. It is also fitted with new bulbous bows
to improve fuel consumption at speeds of 16 to 18 knots as well as an
electronically controlled long stroke engine with an exhaust gas bypass system
as well as a ballast water treatment system.
