SOUTH KOREAN corporate giant Samsung expects to ship a
record 510 million handsets throughout 2013, a 20 per cent increase over 2012,
reports the Korea Times.
"Of the 510 million handsets it plans to sell, 390
million are slated as smartphones and 120 million, feature and budget
phones," said an executive from one of Samsung's key suppliers.
The devices that will help Samsung make sure the 510
million handsets are a success are the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2, which has
sold well against Apple devices.
A new plan for 2013 is an apparent partnership with
Microsoft, said the report, which added that Samsung is planning to release a
series of devices with the Windows Phone 8 operating system.
"There are possibilities that smartphone demand will
slow in general. But we are seeing new demand for devices using Long Term
Evolution [LTE)]," said Samsung telecomm chief Kim Hyun-joon.
