ETHIOPIA has been named the fourth fastest growing
country for air freight volume during forecast period 2013-2017 at a compound
annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.3, according to IATA's Airline industry
forecast.
The increasing trade and investment in Africa by Asia,
and particularly China, has contributed to its boost in air cargo business,
said IATA global head of cargo Desmond Vertannes, reports the Addis Ababa
Reporter.
"The big contributor is the perishable cargo
industry. The perishable industry, the flower, fish industry and the
manufacturing industry contribute to the growth of the air cargo in
Africa," he added.
Ethiopian airlines carries an annual 200,000 tons of
cargo, using a fleet of six dedicated freighters to 24 destinations making it
the largest cargo operator in Africa and in the world's top 50.
