PARIS-based SDV, a supply chain management company with
600 offices in 99 countries and a subsidiary of the Bollore Group, has acquired
the business of Belgian forwarding company, EDT, which will operate under its
old brand name.
Founded in 2001, EDT specialises in shipping conventional
and project-related cargo, and also offers tailor-made solutions for small and
medium-sized companies.
Most cargo-flows managed by EDT consist of dry bulk cargo
to and from Africa, amounting to 8,000 TEU and 126,000 freight tons in 2012.
A statement from SDV said that with this takeover it will
acquire extra know-how and intelligence with respect to the handling and
shipping of bulk cargo.
"We noticed that some customers are considering a
shift from container transport to bulk shipments in West Africa," said
SDV's Benelux CEO Geert De Wilde.
The managing director and founder of EDT, Carl Bolens,
will join SDV and be assisted by another four staff. Mr Bolens has a long track
record in the industry having previously served as a sales director for CMB
line and then Safmarine.
SDV also manages shipments to, from and within Africa.
Last year 98,000 TEU and 12,000 ro-ro shipments were handled by SDV Belgium.
