FRIGO Coldstore Logistics has opened its third cold
storage facility at the port of Hamburg, to meet the continued increase in
demand for refrigerated capacity.
When completed in August, the new building will raise the
cool capacity at the port to 40,000 pallets on an 18,000-square metre site.
Last year the Port of Hamburg handled a record 618,000
TEU of reefer boxes, representing an increase of 9.3 per cent compared with
2012.
The contents include fruit, meat, fish, vegetables and
dairy products, mostly from Asia, South America, the South Seas, Indonesia and
Norway, reported the UK's Port Strategy.
In total the port handled 139 million tonnes of cargo
last year, up 6.2 per cent year on year. Alongside the 4.4 per cent increase in
containers, general cargo was up 5.7 per cent and bulk cargo up by 7.2 per
cent.
