SEASPAN, an independent charter owner and container
lessor largely run from Hong Kong, has accepted delivery of a 4,600-TEUer, the
MOL Excellence, built by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries in 2003, to expand the
company's operating fleet to 70 ships.
The MOL Excellence is on charter to Mitsui OSK Lines
(MOL) under a two-year, fixed-rate time charter. The ship is the fifth of a
total of eight vessels to be chartered by Seaspan to MOL.
Seaspan's managed fleet consists of 89 containerships
totalling 600,000 TEU, including 16 newbuild containerships on order scheduled
for delivery by the end of 2015.
Its current operating fleet has an average age of six
years and an average remaining lease period of six years.
