THE Somali government and the European Union will co-host
"The New Deal for Somalia" talks in Brussels on September 16 to set
forth key priorities of support and reconstruction over a three-year period.
The Somali EU talks are a part of the "New Deal for
Fragile States" framework and support a current atmosphere of activity,
emerging governance and hope, said EU representative for foreign affairs and
security policy Catherine Ashton of a situation in Somali which has been
"transformed over the past year".
Somali President Hassan Sheik Mohamud said the deal is an
opportunity to "galvanise" international support to aid recovery.
"We have this one chance to ensure that over the next three years we build
on the momentum of progress and remove any threat of a return to anarchy and
conflict," he added.
