THE International Transport Workers' Federation (ITF),
meeting in Chicago, has resolved to organise a global campaign against DP World
for its failure to cooperate with trade unions.
The resolution demanded DP World recognise unions and
negotiate labour contracts at its terminals worldwide, and consult unions when
introducing automation.
The London-based ITF represents workers at the UN's
International Labour Organisation (ILO), the International Maritime
Organisation (IMO) and the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).
ITF representatives agreed to take action against DP
World, alleging it is "systematically attempting to undermine the wages
and working conditions all over the world by engaging in anti-union
behaviour."
At issue is the yet to open London Gateway terminal, as
well as complaints from India, Peru and Australia. The resolution to
co-ordinate and assist union organisers at DP World, and to organise a
"global day of action" in September.
