WALMART and the Walmart Foundation are committing US$1
million to support the emergency relief efforts of the Red Cross and Save the
Children to help victims of typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.
In addition to the $1 million donation, Walmart has set
up online websites for its US customers and associates to make personal
contributions to the relief efforts in the Philippines through the Red Cross.
"With devastation of this scale we wanted to quickly
mobilise our resources to help those in need and Walmart has the ability to do
that," said Walmart Foundation president Kathleen Mclaughlin.
"Our thoughts are with everyone who has been
impacted by the devastation in the Philippines, including our customers and
associates across the world who have ties to the country," she said.
Said Walmart Asia CEO Scott Price: "Both the Red
Cross and Save the Children are providing relief for immediate needs such as nutritious
food, medical supplies and health care. Additionally, Save the Children will
set up Child Friendly Spaces to help children cope with trauma and fear in the
wake of this devastating storm."
