[070716.EN.BIZ] Sickly HMM Plans To Run 6 New 10,000-TEUers, Join 2M, Dominate Mideast

NEAR bankrupt Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM) has laid out a list of extraordinary ambitions - take delivery of six 10,000-TEU ships, join the exclusive Maersk-MSC alliance and dominate Asia-Middle East shipping.

Amazingly, HMM with its US$4.48 billion debt load plans to throw its six new leviathans into the Americas service, while plotting to dominate the Asia-Middle East as well as join the world's biggest 2M shipping alliance.

The new ships started joining the company's fleet in January 2016, when the first vessel, the Hyundai Earth, joined its owner, followed shortly by another four 10,000-TEU vessels, the Hyundai Mars, Jupiter, Saturn and Neptune.

HMM said that five of these vessels are operating on the North American east coast routes, which pass through the recently expanded Panama Canal, while the remaining one has been operating in South American west coast routes since January.

With these deployments, Korea's HMM increased its North American east coast fleet from 4,600-TEU vessels to more than 10,000-TEU ships, reports Rotterdam's World Maritime News.

On the edge of bankruptcy less than two weeks ago, HMM it has reportedly made peace with its lenders in a general creditor-led restructuring of the company.

This is combined with previously announced plans to dominate the Asia-Mideast trade by exploiting the lifting of international sanctions against Iran, according to Yonhap News Agency.

The company reportedly said it would send 12 containerships to operate on two separate shipping routes between the regions, as HMM expects its market share for the route to grow from eight to 13 per cent. HMM now operates one route between the Middle East and Asia.

HMM has reached agreements with containership owners on 20 per cent charter rate cuts and with owners of bulk carriers for 25 per cent charter rate reductions, which are expected to come in force over the next three and a half years.

After it gained the bond holders' approval for its debt restructuring proposal, the company's creditor-led restructuring scheme encountered a hurdle last week due to HMM's inability to find a global shipping alliance to join, and has therefore been pushed to late July.

Under the terms set by its creditors, led by the state-run Korea Development Bank (KDB), HMM needs to fulfil the restructuring prerequisites, which include a debt recast, reaching agreement on charter rate cuts and becoming a part of a global shipping alliance.

JAKARTA. Blackberry Limited mengumumkan sebuah kerja sama strategis dengan PT Elang Mahkota Tecnology Tbk (Emtek Group).

Kedua perseroran akan menyediakan layanan lintas platform pengguna Black Berry Messenger (BBM) dengan akses yang diperkaya dengan isi dan layanan. Di antaranya mengembangkan aplikasi baru untuk Android, iOS, dan Windows Phone.

Sebagai catatan, Emtek Group sendiri, saat ini membawahi PT. Surya Citra Mandiri (SCTV) Indosiar dan O-Channel.

Untuk memperkuat rencana tersebut, KMK Online sebagai divisi konten digital Emtek, berencana mendirikan kantor di Toronto, Kanada. Tujuannya untuk bekerja sama dengan BlackBerry.

Untuk diketahui, KMK Online memiliki jangkauan luas dalam aset-aset media. Nantinya akan dikombinasikan dengan lebih dari 20 perusahaan dan berbagai investasi Emtek untuk menciptakan layanan dan pertambahan nilai yang signifikan bagi BBM.

Investasi tersebut mencakup siaran televisi, situs dan aset web, produksi konten, dan para artis seniman. Dengan demikian, para pengguna akan memiliki akses ke sejumlah besar konten.

Di antaranya seperti, free-to-air (FTA), platform video online terkemuka, tiga rumah produksi eksklusif, perpustakaan yang mencakup lebih dari 100 ribu jam konten TV dan konten premium lain.

Kerja sama antar keduanya itu dalam bentuk perjanjian lisensi software dan hak kekayaan intelektual Black Berry Messanger.

Black Berry juga akan memperpanjang ekosistem mobilitas terbuka dengan membuat program aplikasi antarmuka BBM atau biasa disebut aplication program interface (API). Aplikasi tersebut tersedia untuk Emtek guna mempercepat pertumbuhan mitra dan penyedia layanan.

”Pengguna BBM kami adalah mereka yang benar-benar menghargai BBM sebagai cara terbaik untuk berbagi dan terhubung satu sama lain,” kata CEO BlackBerry John Chen dalam keterangan tertulisnya.

Pihaknya mengungkapkan akan terus menawarkan kepada pengguna BBM tentang konten dan layanan baru yang dimiliki. Diantaranya seperti e-commerce, video, musik, dan permainan.

Sementara itu, CEO Emtek Alvin Sariaatmadja mengungkapkan bahwa kemitraan melalui perjanjian lisensi tersebut dilakukan untuk mempercepat visi BlackBerry. Yakni, ingin memajukan BBM untuk pasar konsumen.

Dengan adanya perjanjian tersebut memungkinkan perusahaan untuk mengembangkan aplikasi-aplikasi dan berbagai layanan baru BBM untuk pangsa pasar Android, iOS, dan Windows Phone.

CARRIER Performance Insight, the online schedule reliability tool provided by Drewry Supply Chain Advisors, shows that ocean carriers achieved a six-month high for liner service reliability in May, reports the American Journal of Transportation.

The on-time average of 76.0 per cent for the 10 trades covered was a 4.1 point improvement on April, representing the third straight month-to-month increase.

There was also an improvement for the average deviation from the expected arrival at port, which came down from 0.9 days in April to 0.8 days in May, the lowest it has been since December 2015.

Eight of the 10 routes covered recorded month-to-month increases in May, the exceptions being Asia-Africa, down 11.9 points to 772.5 per cent, and Asia-South America that dropped 1.5 points to 75.7 per cent. The biggest improvement was seen in the Transpacific, which rose by 9.8 points to 76.3 per cent, the best since September of last year.

The most reliable carrier in May was OOCL, which had an on-time average of 81.1 per cent, very closely followed by Wan Hai (81.01pc) and Evergreen (80.3pc). A further sign of the universal attempt by carriers to improve reliability was the fact that the spread between the most and least reliable carrier was below 11 points as all lines scored above 70 per cent.

"Service reliability is on a steadily improving path and is close to the heights reached in the second-half of 2015. We expect the trend to continue through the next few months as carriers put reliability close to the top of their marketing," said senior researcher Simon Heaney.

JAKARTA. Stasiun Kereta Api Gambir telah mengerahkan sebanyak sembilan kereta kelas eksekutif tambahan untuk mendukung kelancaran transportasi pada arus mudik Idul Fitri 1437 Hijriah atau Lebaran 2016.

"Kereta ini sudah kita kerahkan sejak akhir bulan Juni, setiap hari yang dioperasikan sembilan rangkaian kereta api," tutur Kepala Stasiun Kereta Api Gambir Edy Kuswoyo saat ditemui di kantornya di Jakarta, Selasa (5/7)siang.

Dia memaparkan, kereta tambahan khusus Lebaran tersebut antara lain Argo Muria Lebaran dengan relasi/rute Gambir-Semarang Tawang yang berangkat pukul 01.15 WIB, Taksaka Pagi Lebaran rute Gambir-Yogyakarta berangkat pukul 07.30 WIB, Argo Muria Lebaran rute Gambir-Semarang Tawang dengan waktu keberangkatan 08.20 WIB.

Selanjutnya, Argo Sindoro Lebaran dengan rute Gambir-Semarang Tawang (16.30), Sembrani Lebaran rute Gambir-Surabaya Pasar Turi (17.30), Purwojaya Lebaran rute Gambir-Cilacap (19.30), Gajayana Lebaran rute Gambir-Malang (23.20), dan Taksaka Malam Lebaran rute Gambir-Yogyakarta (23.35 WIB).

Total jumlah keberangkatan kereta api dari Stasiun Gambir khusus dalam rangka Lebaran mencapai 43 rangkaian setiap harinya.

Lonjakan penumpang kereta api tertinggi menjelang Lebaran di Stasiun Gambir, Jakarta Pusat, terjadi pada hari Minggu (3/7) dengan jumlah mencapai 15.005 orang dengan berbagai tujuan di Jawa Barat, Jawa Tengah, Yogyakarta, dan Jawa Timur.

Berdasarkan data yang diperoleh dari Posko Humas Stasiun Gambir di Jakarta, Selasa siang, diketahui bahwa pada hari Senin (4/7) telah diberangkatkan sebanyak 14.571 penumpang, sedangkan pada Sabtu (2/7) telah diberangkatkan sebanyak 14.765 penumpang.

Sementara itu, terkait dengan lonjakan penumpang yang terjadi di Stasiun Gambir pada hari Minggu (3/7), Edy menilai hal tersebut bukan sebagai arus puncak karena adanya sistem yang telah tertata dengan baik di KAI.

"Sebenarnya tidak ada arus puncak, karena sekarang KAI sudah 100 persen menyediakan tempat duduk, jadi tidak ada kereta yang melebihi kapasitas apalagi (penumpang) sampai berdiri. Kalau pun ada perbedaan jumlah penumpang, selisihnya hanya sedikit," tutur Edy memaparkan.

Sedangkan sejak 24 Juni 2016 hingga hari ini pukul 11.00 WIB, Stasiun Kereta Api Gambir telah memberangkatkan sebanyak 132.951 penumpang.

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Menteri Perhubungan (Menhub) Ignasius Jonan menginginkan seluruh operator moda transportasi untuk menggunakan sistem penjualan tiket secara dalam jaringan (daring) atau online. Bahkan Menhub mengatakan setelah Lebaran dirinya berniat untuk mengeluarkan peraturan menteri dalam satu standar pelayanan. 

"Sudah setahun ini kita menghimbau untuk menggunakan sistem teknologi online atau sejenisnya untuk memperlancar efisiensi pelayanan. Nanti setelah operasi Idul Fitri saya bikin Permen (Peraturan Menteri) supaya memaksa semua operator transportasi bisa menggunakan sistem pelayanan online atau sejenis," ucap Jonan saat meninjau penjualan tiket di rest area 68 Tol Tanggerang-Merak, Minggu (3/7/2016).

Jonan memberi contoh penjualan tiket online bisa meniru sistem yang sudah digunakan di PT KAI. "Sederhanannya pelabuhan penyeberangan itu banyak, tapi yang ramai cuma 14 pelabuhan penyeberangan termasuk Merak-Bakaheuni lalu Ketapang-Gilimanuk, kalau diterapkan sistem online mestinya  bisa. Kalau enggak bisa dipaksalah kira-kira  3-6 bulan diuji coba bisa, kalau enggak bisa harus belajar ke PT. KAI," tegas Jonan.

Jonan menilai, jika sudah diberlakukan sistem pembelian tiket secara daring, tidak akan ada lagi penumpukan penumpang di terminal atau pelabuhan. Sistem ini akan menguntungkan bagi masyarakat karena efisien. 

"Jadi tidak ada penumpukan penumpang di pelabuhan karena sudah online, kalau sudah online dia (penumpang) sudah bisa beli kan kurang dua minggu dia bisa beli tanggalnya tanggal berapa. Ini efisiensi semua, masyarakat efisien, terminal penumpang dan pelabuhannya efisien," lanjutnya.

"Kalau tidak menggunakan ini orang dari jauh pedalaman Kalimatan 100 Kilometer ke pelabuhan beli tiket nunggu. Dapatnya kapan pak, empat hari lagi tidur di situ dia. Akhirnya penumpukan berantakan dia," pungkas Jonan.

CARGOLUX CEO Dirk Reich has stepped down citing personal reasons two years after his appointment at the all cargo carrier which is 35 per cent owned by a Chinese company, reports Luxemburger Wort newspaper.

Last month a new joint-venture with Zhengzhou-based Henan Civil Aviation and Investment Co (HNCA), which holds 65 per cent in the JV, started under mounting criticism.

News emerged that Mr Reich would leave with immediate effect, after "losing support", the newspaper said without elaborating.

Cargolux will own 35 per cent of the JV, with partner HNCA not only holding controlling interest, but also 35 per cent of Cargolux itself.

Cargolux China will receive US$220 million in initial funding, which includes $77 million from Cargolux.

The CEO departure has yet to be officially announced and still remains to be approved by the board, said the report quoting Infrastructure Minister Francois Bausch.

Richard Forson, who once served as interim CEO before Mr Reich assumed command in March 2014, is favoured to take over, according to local media.

Earlier this year, media reports citing sources close to the Cargolux China venture reported warnings of a "commercial calamity."

The reports said that Mr Reich had lost the backing of Luxembourg's minister of transport and shareholders of the airline.

The new Cargolux China said it would rely on a perishables transpacific and intra-Asia focus when flights commence next year, reported London's Loadstar.

Mr Reich said this would be 80 per cent of its business, but would also include the first-ever Cargolux connection with Australia to Melbourne.

The new airline will operate three 747s, but later expand to five within three years.

The JV will build upon the carrier's milestone of reaching 100,000 freight tonnes on the route between its Luxembourg and Zhengzhou hubs, which comes just eight months after hitting the 50,000-tonne mark last October.

Cargolux now operates seven weekly flights between its "dual hubs" as well as flights from Zhengzhou to Milan, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Chicago. Overall, the airline operates 100 weekly flights into mainland China.
