THIRD party logistics provider specialising in customised freight forwarding and supply chain solutions and a part of the A P Moller-Maersk Group, Damco, has appointed Eric Herman as the new global chief commercial officer (CCO) of the company, which has offices and representation in more than 120 countries worldwide.
Mr Herman joins Damco from a position with A P Moller-Maersk owned shipping line Safmarine, where he has been CCO since 2010. Before joining the A P Moller-Maersk Group, he had a successful career within General Electrics (GE Plastics) and SABIC, which includes a number of leadership positions and three years in Shanghai between 2005 and 2008.
The 46-year old CCO, who started in his new role on May 1, has 19 years of commercial experience and a strong execution record, which is exactly what Damco is looking for, said Damco CEO Rolf Habben-Jansen.
"I am very happy to have Eric on board and I am convinced that he will be a strong addition to our commercial team and to our global leadership team."
Mr Herman, a Dutch native and the holder of a Master of Science degree in Material Science and Engineering from (Technische Universiteit) University of Technology in Delft, will be based in the headquarters in Copenhagen. He joins Damco at a time of steady progress and high expectations, especially in growth markets. With a US$2.8 billion turnover in 2011, Damco has set out on an ambitious growth path, to become a major player in the global logistics industry.
The challenge facing the new global CCO is to help Damco to continue delivering superior value to customers, to grow faster than the market, as well as to grow volumes significantly, while further improving profitability.
"I am excited to join Damco at this time. Damco has come a long way already, but the potential for further strengthening customer partnerships and growing Damco's position, as a logistics provider is huge. I am looking forward to getting started," Mr Herman said.
