[040915.ID.BIZ] Tak Ambisius, Tiket Online Pelni Hanya Kejar Pertumbuhan 3%

[030915.EN.SEA] CMA CGM Quarterly Profit Up 67pc to US$156 Million As Revenue Falls 2.1pc

FRENCH shipping giant, the world's No 3 container line, posted a 67 per cent increase in second quarter net profit to US$156 million, drawn on revenues of $4.11 billion, which declined 2.1 per cent year on year.

First half volumes were up 8.2 per cent to 6.4 million TEU and company revenue was stable at $8.1 billion with net profit nearly tripled at $562 million.

Volumes carried during the second quarter increased 6.2 per cent year on year to 3.3 million TEU, compared to global market volume growth of one to two per cent.

But average revenue per box fell 7.8 per cent though the decline was "significantly less than benchmark indices for the period due to the broad diversity of the group's customers and lines".

Unit costs fell 10.9 per cent, largely because of the sharp fall in oil prices. The company said it enjoyed above market volume growth of 6.2 per cent.

Operating profit (core EBIT) surged 59.3 per cent compared to the second quarter of 2014 to $325 million, as lower unit costs outpaced the decline in average revenue per container.

CMA CGM upgraded services in fast-growing markets. It reported vigorous growth in its lines to and from the US partly on the weakness of euro, which boosted European exports to the US, particularly reefer cargo.

CMA CGM won the 30-year concession to operate the Kingston (Jamaica) container terminal, which will become the group's regional hub for the Panama Canal expansion scheduled for completion in 2016.

Two new 9,400-TEU vessels joined the group's fleet: the CMA CGM Tage and the CMA CGM Thames. These vessels are designed to operate within the expanded Panama Canal and are currently positioned on fast-developing lines.

During the period, the group also took delivery of the CMA CGM Kerguelen and the CMA CGM Georg Forster, the first two vessels in the 18,000-TEU series.

CMA CGM developed its logistics subsidiary CMA CGM LOG, with the acquisition of 60 per cent in LCL Logistix, a logistics leader in India, and a "framework agreement" regarding a new logistics platform in Cuba.

On July 1, CMA CGM signed two major agreements at an event in Marseille attended by Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius.

One was Tji, a $1 billion financing solutions framework agreement with Chinese bank CEXIM and a partnership with China Merchants (CMHI) as part of China's "One Belt, One Road" programme, a strategic initiative backed by Beijing to develop infrastructure and logistics projects.

Since July, CMA CGM has taken delivery of two 2,100-TEU vessels deployed on lines to Guyana, along with a 9,300-TEU and 18,000-TEU vessel. In the coming weeks, the group will take delivery of one 2,100-TEU vessel, one 9,300-TEU vessel, and two 18,000-TEU vessels, including CMA CGM Bougainville, set to become the largest containership sailing under the French flag.

"Also on 1 July, the group closed the acquisition of OPDR, a shipping company specialising in intra-European multimodal solutions, after the transaction was cleared by the European Commission. OPDR will help solidify the market position of group subsidiary MacAndrews, which is already active in this segment," said the company statement.

The CMA CGM Group obtains the Containers Terminal concession of Kribi, Cameroon, for 25 years.

[030915.ID.BIZ] Pekerja JICT Dukung Penuntasan Kasus di Pelindo II

JAKARTA.

[020915.EN.SEA] New Mega-Ships Help Lower Carbon Footprint of Shipping Industry, Not Just Raise Efficiency

MEGASHIPS with their fuel-efficient designs are helping to lower the carbon footprint of ocean liners, that, and slow-steaming and operating at steady engine speeds, according to a new report by the Clean Cargo Working Group (CCWG)

CCWG is an organisation whose members are shippers and carriers, including most of the top 20 container shipping lines, and represent 80 per cent of global capacity.

Shippers and freight forwarders include BMW, Belk, Electrolux, Heineken, Hewlett-Packard, Ikea, Kohl's, Monsanto, Nike and Ralph Lauren.

Importers and exporters have been coming under pressure from senior management in recent years to cut carbon dioxide emissions in their supply chains.

It is also becoming increasingly important to shipping lines, which are marketing the efficiencies of their new mega-ships to attract greater business from retailers and other large shippers with a mandate to reduce CO2 emissions.

The report shows that in 2014 average CO2 emissions in the global container shipping trades declined 8.4 per cent from the year before, with the greatest improvements recorded on routes where the largest and newest box ships operate.

While starting with the ocean segment of the supply chain, Clean Cargo has also developed an intermodal carbon calculator that measures emissions in the marine terminal, rail, trucking and warehouse sectors, reported Newark's Journal of Commerce.

Shippers through the working group calculate the environmental impacts of transporting their goods in international commerce. Cargo interests use this information to benchmark the performance of their ocean carriers against others in the global container trades.

Last year the global fleet's average of CO2 emissions per TEU carried per kilometre travelled was 53.4 grammes. The lowest average CO2 emissions were on the Asia-North Europe trade lane, at 37.9 grammes, where most mega-ships of up to 20,000 TEU are deployed.

The highest emissions were recorded in the intra-Europe trades at 84. The trade lanes to Africa, Oceania and Latin America also had relatively high carbon emissions. In the US trades, the lowest average CO2 emissions were in the Asia-US west coast trade lane, at 50.9, with vessels of 8,000 to 14,000 TEU dominating the trade.

The Asia-US east coast trade had average CO2 emissions of 56. In the transatlantic North Europe to east and Gulf Coast trades, the average was 70.3 grammes of CO2 per TEU per kilometre.

[020915.ID.BIZ] RJ Lino Ancam Jokowi, Anggota DPR: Ini Gila!

(fal)

[010915.EN.BIZ] Mumbai's JNPT Dockers To Join National General Workers Strike On Wednesday

MUMBAI's Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) is bracing itself a 24-hour strike on Wednesday September 2 as dockers join a nationwide general strike call the big labour federations, reports IHS media.

Dockers are protesting increased privatisation in coming reforms of public port trusts planned by the business-friendly Narendra Modi government, that would mean a loss of jobs and benefits.

The strike is expected to disrupt most state-owned ports, potentially leading to an acceleration of the long-term trend of cargo diversions to privately-operated, minor marine terminals.

Truckers, seafarers, shipyard workers, railway workers as well as public sector employees and workers from other sections plans to join the strike. The stoppage is expected to cripple supply chains.“The government is bringing changes to push workers out of the coverage of all labour laws and to curb trade union rights," the labour federations said in announcing the strike.

For JNPT, this will be the second labour disruption in as many months. On August 4, APM Terminals' Gateway Terminals India, which is the largest container facility in the port complex and accounts for about 40 per cent of national maritime throughput, halted operations following a dockers go-slow.

This induced carriers to reroute ships from Mumbai and drop off JNPT imports at other ports, including faraway Colombo.

Although the go-slow ended on August 11 after an eight-day shutdown, shippers and logistics providers using the three terminals in JNPT are still reporting serious delays and excessive truck turn times.

Above all, several major carriers have issued congestion surcharge notices with amounts of US$150 per TEU and $300 per FEU for all JNPT-bound shipments to offset extra costs caused by the disruption.

JNPT accounts for 60 per cent of total container cargo routed via India’s 12 major public port complexes and the newest port data collected by JOC.com shows steady congestion is taking a toll on the port, as its throughput during the month until Tuesday morning slipped 10.5 percent from 302,598 TEU to 270,653 TEU year on year.

[010915.ID.BIZ] Demo 1 September, Buruh Tuntut Gaji Naik 22%

JAKARTA.
