[230916.ID.BIZ] Sharp Bangun Pabrik AC Di Karawang

"Permintaan AC masih tumbuh sekitar enam persen, padahal (permintaan) barang elektonik lain turun," ujar Herdiana.

Representatives at Japanese shipping major Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (K Line) have rubbished reports from China that the line will shortly follow Hanjin Shipping into administration.

A report carried by Shanghai Metals suggested K Line will file for bankruptcy protection within the next two weeks.

Kiyoshi Tokonami, general manager of K Line’s IR & PR Group, dismissed the report today. Speaking from K Line’s HQ, Tokonami told Splash rumours of them filing bankruptcy are “untrue, completely groundless”.

Adding further fuel to the bankruptcy speculation, Splash has received an image (pictured below) purportedly to be an emergency notice from a Chinese shipper that states K Line will follow Hanjin into court receivership either next week or within two weeks.

In May, ratings agency Moody’s downgraded K Line from Ba2 to Ba3. As of the end of its last financial year, March 31 2016, its gearing ratio stood at 1.48:1.

K Line, also in the red in the first quarter, warned at the end of July its full year loss will be worse than originally forecast. K Line is now bracing for a full year loss of Y45.5bn, some Y10.5bn worse than originally predicted in April, the start of the Japanese financial year.

Japanese shipping has been rocked by big bankruptcies in recent years – Sanko Steamship and Daiichi Chuo being the two most high profile. A K Line receivership, however, would be on a whole different scale given its scale and diverse business activities.

Earlier this month Splash reported that a Japanese fund run out of Singapore called Effissimo was gearing up to take over K Line.

Effissimo has been steadily building its stake in Japan’s third largest line to the point whereby it is now the largest shareholder with a 37% holding as of early August, up from 6.2% a year earlier.

Effissimo Capital Management, established in Singapore by ex-colleagues of activist investor Yoshiaki Murakami, has become the top shareholder in the line as well as in other well known Japanese brands such as office equipment maker Ricoh. Its strategy has been to target Japanese firms it deems undervalued.

However, K Line’s Tokonami today dismissed the takeover talk. “We are having dialogue, explaining our business plans as is usual with any shareholder,” Tokonami said, adding: “Effisimo says their stake is purely for investment purposes.”

K Line shares are trading today at JPY263, up by 2.7%.

[220916.ID.BIZ] Kemenperin Tidak Setuju Revisi UU Minerba

[160916.EN.SEA] Seaspan: Hanjin Will Be To Shipping What Lehman Bros Was To Finance

THE BANKRUPTCY of Hanjin Shipping is like the 2008 collapse of Lehman Brothers and will impact shipping the way Lehman's fall hit world finance, says non-operating shipowner Gerry Wang, CEO of Seaspan.

"It's a huge, a huge nuclear bomb. It shakes up the supply chain, the cornerstone of globalisation," Mr Wang said.

Seaspan, the Hong Kong-based containership leasing company that has three vessels chartered to the distressed line, is evaluating all options and examining systemic risks resulting from Hanjin's bankruptcy filing, Mr Wang said in an interview with Bloomberg Television.

In June, Mr Wang had rejected Hanjin's requests for charter-rate cuts before the shipping line filed for court receivership last month.

With about 93 ships, including 79 container vessels, stranded at 51 ports in 26 countries, the gridlock at Hanjin has disrupted global supply chains during "peak season" when stores in the US stock up before the year's busiest holiday shopping season.

The owner and Hanjin's parent are in the process of injecting funds to help the beleaguered company offload cargo stuck aboard many ships and break the impasse.

The impact on Seaspan has been small, Mr Wang said, adding he is seeing a "silver lining" as freight rates improve in the short term.

The vessels he has leased to other shippers are more than 90 per cent full ahead of the holiday season, said Mr Wang, who owns 90 ships.

[160916.ID.BIZ] DWELLING TIME: Kesadaran Importir Mengurus Dokumen Masih Minim

[150916.EN.SEA] Fear of Australian Arrest Keeps Hanjin Ship Lying Off Melbourne

THE 4,253-TEU Hanjin Milano was drifting outside the Australian port of Melbourne as the financially stricken carrier feared the vessel may be arrested by its Rickmers owner, reports IHS Media.

"There is a chance that Rickmers may arrest the ship due to outstanding charter payments," said a source familiar with the situation.

More than 90 of Hanjin ships have been stranded worldwide as the company scrambles to get South Korean court protection recognised in other jurisdictions. US courts have offered limited protection on a case-by-case basis.

Thus, the 10,114-TEU Hanjin Greece docked in Long Beach on September 10 after lying off Southern California for 10 days, and the 8,000-TEU Hanjin Boston docked at Yusen Terminals. But the 4,275-TEU Hanjin Gdynia and 10,100-TEU Hanjin Jungil are still at anchor.

The berthing of the Greece and Boston was made possible by Hanjin Shipping winning Chapter 15 protection in the United States, which allows its vessels to call at US ports without being arrested.

Vessel-tracking data from IHS Maritime & Trade's AISLive shows that the Hanjin Milano departed Shanghai on August 23 and was scheduled to arrive in Melbourne on September 12.

The ship has been chartered from Rickmers Reederei GmbH & Cie since September 2009.

Hanjin Shipping, with over US$5 billion of debt, went into receivership on September 1 after losing banker support.

So far, it is known that the 3,711-TEU Hanjin Rome has been arrested in Singapore, the 5,752-TEU Hanjin Vienna has been arrested in Canada, and major commodity trading firm Glencore, whose bunker unit Chemoil is owed money by Hanjin Shipping, has seized the 3,600-TEU Hanjin California in Sydney's Port Botany.

World Fuel Services sought the arrest of the 4,250-TEU Hanjin Montevideo over arrears of more than $488,000, causing this ship and another vessel, the 8,000-TEU Hanjin Boston, to loiter off the Southern California coast to avoid arrest.

On September 10, the 10,114-TEU Hanjin Greece docked in Long Beach after waiting off the Southern California coast for 10 days to berth, and the Hanjin Boston, will berth at Yusen Terminals on Tuesday. The 4,275-TEU Hanjin Gdynia and 10,100-TEU Hanjin Jungil are still at anchor.

The berthing of the Greece and Boston was made possible by Hanjin Shipping winning Chapter 15 protection in the United States, which allows its vessels to call at US ports without being arrested.

The Hanjin Group, its chairman Cho Yang-ho, and Hanjin Shipping's former chairwoman Choi Eun-young, are contributing about $19 million to resolve the logistical chaos that erupted after South Korea's No 1 liner operator went into receivership.
