[280120.EN.SEA] General Average Declared on German 8,402-TEUer Hit By Engine Fire

A GENERAL Average has been declared on the 8,400-TEU German-owned Panama-flagged Northern Jupiter that suffered an engine room fire in the Malacca Strait.

A notice to customers from Ocean Network Express (ONE) said the vessel Northern Jupiter suffered a main engine fire while sailing from Singapore to Port Klang, Malaysia. The fire was extinguished and the vessel towed back to Singapore following a class survey and approval from the Malaysian authorities.

ONE said the Northern Jupiter arrived back in Singapore on 14 January and underwent a detailed inspection to assess damage to the vessel and its cargo, and the owner declared General Average on January 17.

The ship is managed Norddeutsche Reederei Schuldt (AIS) / V Ships Hamburg GMBH & Co KG (Equasis).
