A GENERAL Average has been declared on the 8,400-TEU
German-owned Panama-flagged Northern Jupiter that suffered an engine
room fire in the Malacca Strait.
A notice to customers from Ocean Network Express
(ONE) said the vessel Northern Jupiter suffered a main engine fire
while sailing from Singapore to Port Klang, Malaysia. The fire was extinguished
and the vessel towed back to Singapore following a class survey and approval
from the Malaysian authorities.
ONE said the Northern Jupiter arrived back in
Singapore on 14 January and underwent a detailed inspection to assess damage to
the vessel and its cargo, and the owner declared General Average on January 17.
The ship is managed Norddeutsche Reederei Schuldt
(AIS) / V Ships Hamburg GMBH & Co KG (Equasis).
