[041119.EN.SEA] Cosco-chartered Seaspan Ship Seized by Indonesia Safe in Singapore

HONG KONG-flagged 4,254-TEU Seaspan Fraser has reached Singapore after a month-long detention at Tanjung Uban, Bintan, Riau Islands, Indonesia, reports Kiev's Maritime Bulletin that specialises in marine casualties.

The 50,382-dwt ship is on charter to PT Cosco Shipping Lines Indonesia, deployed on Surabaya - Singapore loop. On September 29 she left Surabaya, bound for Singapore, to be seized by Indonesian Navy on unclear grounds of some "security" concerns, according to Indonesian business edition Bisnis.com.

The ship was intercepted in Singapore Strait and taken to Tanjung Uban anchorage, with 1,700 TEU on board, containing different types of commodities, including food and fishery products in reefer containers.

Cosco Indonesia can't say yet, what is the condition of the goods, expecting claims and disputes. Understood the owner of the ship, Vancouver-based Canadian Seaspan, was dealing with Indonesian authorities, to provide ship's release.
