[040513.EN.AIR] United To Purchase 30 Embraer 175s For Its United Express Operations

UNITED Airlines is purchasing 30 Embraer 175 regional jets to add to the United Express fleet scheduled for delivery in 2014 and 2015 and will be operated by a United Express partner to be announced later, said a company statement.

As United inducts the new aircraft into the United Express fleet, it will remove some of the older 50-seat regional jets. The E175s will consume 10 per cent less fuel per seat and will have fewer CO2 emissions than the 50-seat aircraft they replace.

"At United, we are focused on modernising our fleet, and we look forward to introducing the E175 to our United Express service," said Jim Compton, United's vice chairman and chief revenue officer.

The Embraer 175 will be the first 76-seat regional jet aircraft in the United Express fleet.

United Express is the brand name of a flight connection service for the "spoke-hub" of US mainline carrier United Airlines, under which 12 individually owned regional airlines operate short- and medium-haul feeder flights.
