[EN-SEA] AET Tanker In Spill After Singapore Strait Collission

Singapore: An AET tanker split 2,000 tonnes of oil after it collided with a handysize bulker in the Singapore Strait early this morning.

The 105,784 dwt, 1998-built, Bunga Kelana 3, operated by MISC tanker arm AET, collided with the Hong Kong owned, 25,449 dwt, 1983-built, bulker Waily at 0610hrs on Tuesday morning in the traffic separation scheme of the Singapore Strait, the Maritime & Port Authority of Singapore said in a statement.

The incident occurred 13m southeast of Changi East in Singapore. The Bunga Kelana 3 suffered damage to one of its cargo tanks and split an estimated 2,000 tonnes of crude according the vessel’s Master.

There were no reports of any injuries to the crew of either vessel. The MPA said it had dispatched four emergency response vessels to the area and activated an oil spill response company, which had deployed three craft. It said the traffic separation scheme remained unaffected.
