[100613.EN.AIR] Air New Zealand Agrees To Pay US$5.95 Million Fine For Price Fixing

AIR New Zealand has settled its cargo price-fixing case with the country's Commerce Commission by paying a NZ$7.5 million (US$5.95 million) fine for breaching the Commerce Act between 2001 and 2006, reported APNZ news agency.

Air New Zealand admitted liability to charges related to inbound cargo services to the Japan and Malaysia routes. With regard to the charge for its Australian service, the airline neither contested nor admitted to them.

The airline was the last one to settle the charges with the commission. Ten other airlines with similar charges have silently settled their cases and paid a total NZ$35 million in penalties.

Air New Zealand still faces charges by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission in relation to air cargo price-fixing on fuel and security surcharges from 2002 to 2006.
