[190214.EN.SEA] CMA CGM Believes In Somalia Recovery, Launches Service To Mogadishu

THE world's third largest container shipping company, CMA CGM, has launched a new service linking the Middle East to Mogadishu, Somalia, to expand its "service opportunities" to Africa undeterred by the scourge of Somali pirates.

"We strongly believe in the recovery of the Somalian economy and are proud to launch the Noura Express, offering worldwide connections to and from Mogadishu," said African Lines vice president Mathieu Friedberg.

The new direct service, the Noura Express, started on January 29 with the sailing of the 1,854-TEU CGM Kailas on a 21-day frequency.

The service offers Mogadishu a link to the French shipping company's long-haul services worldwide at the port of Khor Fakkan in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The port rotation of the Noura Express is Jebel Ali, Khor Fakkan, Salalah, Mogadishu, returning to Jebel Ali. It takes six days for the service to reach Mogadishu from Jebel Ali.

"This is the first milestone of our growth plan in this region and there will be more developments in the months ahead," Mr Friedberg said.
