[EN-SEA] World Container Fleet Continues to Pile on Tonnage

ISRAELI carrier Zim Integrated Shipping Services is expected to deploy its 8,440-TEU newbuilding, the Zim Ningbo, which is the second of four sister ships ordered from Hyundai-Samho in 2006 on the transpacific loop PNX that it jointly operates with Grand Alliance carriers.

The extra ship is being assigned to the PNX service to "slow down" this loop "and yet maintain the weekly sailing frequency," reports AXS-Alphaliner News, which notes the Zim Ningbo follows the Zim Los Angeles delivered in July last year.

It said the Schulte Group will take delivery of the first of two 4,600-TEU box ships built at the DSME shipyard (Daewoo). The vessel, the Bernhard Schulte, is on a long-term charter to Hamburg Sud, who will operate the containership under the name of Cap Ines.

She is expected to join the Asia-West Coast South America service Sling 1 that is jointly provided by Hamburg Sud and CCNI, with MSC and MOL as co-loaders.

"Hamburg Sud is to receive four ships in this series, two of which chartered (including the Cap Ines) and two owned. Four ships in this Daewoo series have been already delivered in 2009 to Norddeutsche Reederei, three of which chartered by "K" Line and one by MISC Bhd," said Alphaliner.

German shipowner Oltmann Schiffahrt has taken delivery of the JPO Taurus, the second of six 4,178-TEU vessels ordered in 2006 from CSBC (Taiwan) by Peter Doehle, Hammonia Reederei and JP Oltmann.

The report said that JPO Taurus has been chartered by UASC, which has changed her name to UASC Ajman and assigned her to its Far East-Middle East (AGX) service.

In addition, German shipowner Schiffahrtskontor Warnow has taken delivery of the Warnow Mate, the sixth ship in a new series of 1,500-TEU box ships built in China by the Ouhua Shipyard in Zhejiang province.

MCC Transport, the intra-Asia arm of the APM-Maersk Group, has chartered the vessel, for deployment on MCC's service that links Taiwan, South China and South East Asia (IA-7). She is said to replace the 1,732-TEU William Strait.
