[250713.EN.SEA] APL Takes Fifth Of Ten 14,000 TEUers With Half Charter-bound To MOL

THE container shipping arm of Singapore's NOL group, APL, has taken delivery of the 14,000 TEU APL Vanda that was ordered in June 2011 from shipbuilder Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries Co, a member of South Korea's Hyundai Heavy Industries group.

This is the fifth newbuilding out of a bulk order for 10 vessels of this type from parent company NOL. Alphaliner said five of ships are being chartered to MOL upon delivery as part of an arrangement within the New World Alliance.

The first vessel in the series went to APL as the APL Temasek, while the others are being delivered each in turn to the two shipping lines. The subsequent ships to delivered so far that follow in order are: the MOL Quest, APL Raffles, MOL Quality delivered in June, and now the APL Vanda. The next ship to be delivered is the MOL Quartz.

The 10 ships will be deployed on the trades between the Far East and Europe and are operated within the G6 partnership. The MOL Quality is being deployed on the G6's Asia-Europe Loop 7.
