[040414.EN.SEA] Evergreen's Large Orderbook Follows Five-year Fleet Renewal Suspension

TAIWAN-based Evergreen Line is to take delivery of the fourth of ten 13,808-TEU ships, the Thalassa Elpida, from Greek owner Enesel SA following delivery by Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI).

The 10 neo-overpanamax ULCS were ordered by Enesel in July 2012 from Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) with the backing of a 10-year charter with Evergreen, final delivery of all vessels is set for September 2014.

The low cost at US$116.5 million per vessel, compared to $160 to $170 million at the peak of the market in 2009, allow Evergreen to benefit from a competitive time charter rate at just below $50,000 with high tonnage and higher efficiency from lower operational speeds, said Paris-based Alphaliner.

The Thalassa Elpida will join sister vessel delivered in January, Thalassa Pistils on Evergreen's Far East-Europe CEM service, part of the new CKYHE offer, with the alliance partners branding it NE 5.
