[150115.EN.LOG] GAC Samudera Logistics Operates Indonesia's First CO2 Cold Chain Warehouse

GAC SAMUDERA Logistics boosted its service capability by starting the first cold chain warehousing service of its kind 30 kilometres east of Jakarta at Bekasi.

The distribution centre is powered by a state-of-the-art cooling system, making it Indonesia's first CO2 cold chain distribution centre, said the company statement.

The CO2 cooling system is more environmentally friendly than conventional technology, which uses ammonia or other common refrigerants, which are toxic and consume more energy, the statement said.

The facility is built to meet all international standards for cold storage specifications with construction, flooring, racking systems designed to meet standards of the food and pharma sectors.

The cold chain distribution centre has six independent chambers with temperatures ranging from -25C to 5C and one chamber for chilled temperatures of zero Celsius to 8C. The chambers are separated from one another with anti-bacterial panels.

Installed with a double-deep rack system, the facility can accommodate a storage volume of more than 6,000 standard pallet positions, and is equipped with plastic pallets, said the GAC Samudera Logistics statement.

In addition to storage space, the fully-equipped facility has a dedicated product processing or customisation area, office space, mechanised material handling equipment, a pest control system and 24/7 power backup.

The facility is accessible to all truck types from small one-tonner trucks to 40-feet containers. Its 12 loading/unloading docks allow for swift loading and unloading.

Said GAC Samudera Logistics managing director Hari Krishnan: "We already have an established track record. We shall draw on our considerable distribution facility and total supply chain management experience and expertise to offer this latest new service to our clients."
