[240212.EN.SEA] Jakarta's Tanjung Priok Container Terminal Able To Dock 6,000-TEU Ships

JAKARTA's Tanjung Priok (JICT) is able to receive 6,000-TEU capacity vessels after showing ability to handle 4,500-TEU ships, said Rima Novianti, secretary of state-owned port operator Pelindo II.

In a report from Jakarta's Antara News, Ms Novianti said it is expecting to receive its largest vessel of 6,000-TEU capacity to dock at JICT in March 2012 in a Maersk Line vessel on the Northern Loop service.

JICT equipment can handle a vessel of this size to international standards, she said, adding "we from Pelindo II believe there will be no problem for it to serve bigger capacity ships."

The Indonesian port operator, PT Pelindo II, signed a memorandum of understanding in September 2011 with the Danish shipping group AP Moller-Maersk for direct calls and to support its port upgrade and operational efficiency.
