[130913.EN.LOG] Henan State-owned Rail And Road Groups Join To Provide D2D Service

ZHENGZHOU Railway Bureau, in charge of rail operations in northern China has signed a deal with the state-run Zhengzhou Transportation Group to cooperate on a road-rail intermodal service.

This means shippers will no longer have to find truckers to move shipments to the railway prior to loading. Under the new system, they would be offered door-to-door service, Xinhua reports.

Cooperation will cover different services, including full-truck-load, less-than-truck-load, consolidation, door-to-door delivery and container transport.

Zhengzhou Transportation Group's network of 161 freight stations will be responsible for the collection and delivery of cargo. Both parties also agreed that when railway capacity is short, delivery will be passed to trucks.

The road-rail intermodal service is as one of the measures that Zhengzhou Railway Bureau is taking to reform its freight business, following the national railway reform that started in mid-June. It is aimed at raising transport efficiency and lower cost by integrating different means of transport seamlessly.

It is reported that an unspecified source disclosed that the bureau will soon start offering high-speed railway express delivery service too.
