[190913.EN.AIR] Heavy Lift Ruslan Flies 16,800-kilogramme Rotor From Chengdu To Lithuania

HEAVY air cargo charter specialists, Ruslan International, has arranged the transport of a giant rotor from Chengdu to Siauliai, Lithuania on one of its 17 Antonov An-124s which it manages for its shareholders Antonov Company and Volga Dnepr Airlines.

The load weighed 116,800 kilogrammes and with its specially-constructed cradle and loading equipment, it came close to the maximum payload of the aircraft, and was one of the heaviest loads carried on an An-124 between China and Europe. The aircraft flew over Urumqui and Aktyuinsk in Kazakhstan.

Measuring 1.4 metres long, 4.5 metres wide and 3.8 metres high, the rotor was also a close fit in the aircraft's main cargo hold. Two mobile cranes were required to position the cargo on the loading track, for winching on board the aircraft, according to a company statement.

before the flight was finalised, Ruslan International sent a representative to visit the shipper in China, in order to advise on preparation of the cargo.
