[010816.EN.SEA] CMA CGM, Hamburg Sud, UASC Withdraw Joint Far East-USEC Service

CMA CGM, Hamburg Sud and UASC have removed their joint Far East-USEC Vespucci/APNE/NEU 1 service owing to weak demand. The transatlantic leg of this pendulum service is to be replaced by a new North Europe-USEC service.

The loop's last sailing from the Far East is will depart from Qingdao on August 3; and the three shipping lines will offer alternative all-water services through slot arrangements, reported Alphaliner.

This Far East-USEC service is the third transpacific service involving CMA CGM and UASC to be withdrawn this summer, following the suspension of the Ocean 3's Far East-USEC Manhattan Bridge/AAE 3/AUC-2 and the Far East–USWC Bohai/AAC/AWS-2 service in June, which also involved the Ocean 3 partner CSCL, which is now part of Cosco.

Total weekly capacity on the Asia to North America corridor is expected to stand at 429,000 TEU by September, representing a decrease of four per cent year on year, according to Alphaliner's trade capacity survey.
