Hamburg-based Rickmers-Linie and Tokyo-based Eastern Car Liner (ECL) will expand their co-operation in the transpacific trade starting early this month.
Rickmers-Linie has deployed ECL's vessels from the US to Asia since 2006. The new agreement allows Rickmers-Linie to also use the ECL vessels eastbound from Asia to the US Gulf & East Coast.
Built between 1995 and 1998, the four 11,000 dwt vessels involved in this co-operation come with heavy lift gear capable of lifting loads of up to 120 tons, and are equipped with ro-ro ramps.
Regular loadings ports within Rickmers-Linie's eastbound service will include Moji, Kure, Nagoya, Hitachi and other ports not currently served by Rickmers' Round-the-World vessels.
The agreement enables both Rickmers-Linie and ECL to optimise their operations within the US Gulf & East Coast services.
